Birds & Blooms in my Summer Garden

The Summer weather has finally arrived much to our delight here in the Pacific Northwest. A visiting chickadee considers a bath, since the water is just about perfect. This is my first time growing Cerinthe, and I am happy that the hummingbirds like feeding from it.   The Monarda looks like a flower one might find on an alien planet. Last of all is the one Jay who figured out how to get the peanuts, from the bird IQ test (feeder) I made recently.  What birds & blooms have been gracing your space lately?

  1. These are all in your garden? How beautiful! The Baloon Flower is new to me. Where does it like to grow and how do you care for it?

  2. Lovely shots...your garden looks so inviting! My beebalm has stopped blooming at this point; I don't think it's been getting enough sun. Love the hummingbird. I have seen them on my cardinal flower but I never seem to be able to catch them with my camera!

  3. Thank you, and yes, these are all in my garden. Balloon Flower (Platycodon)is a long blooming perennial that likes part to full sun with moist, rich soil. My soil isn't particularly rich, and I have found it very easy to grow. I cut off the dead blooms to keep it blooming longer. I love how the buds look before they open. It is slow to start up in the Spring.

My beebalm just started blooming, but Summer has taken a while to get started here. I haven't been able to photograph the hummingbirds in my garden either, but I lure them to my patio feeder where they sit still for a bit :)

  4. Your photos are so lovely. Love the little hummingbirds. It was 111here yesterday so our flowers are not doing well at all. Hoping next year we get rain and no severe heat as I miss my flowers!
